BeenO Awards

Its fun isn't it? To turn around and look back at what was.... 

But whats even more fun...is to turn around and give an additional pat on the back to those who have done a good job and helped make our lives a little bit better, a little bit more enjoyable and have given us one more reason to smile - back then when they did it; now as we remember it and in the future when we might reminisce over it.

With a plethora of awards out there, I figured there'd be no harm in having my own little awards as well, especially given that different people have a variety of choices and they may not be satisfied with the decision of all the awards juries....

Here's offering you one more perspective... the Been-O-pinion Awards, or the BeenO Awards for short.

With all my love for bollywood music, I'd like to start with the music awards -

Category 1 - Music

Song of the Year....and the nominations are:

This year no doubt has been one where bollywood has churned out the most number of films in terms of variety. We had some mad comedies, some extremely intelligent scripts, some daftly executed screenplays, some brilliantly performed roles, and some very differently written and told stories.

Oh My God - for uniqueness in concept and bold storytelling

Best Screenplay....and the nominations are: (Warning: I may not be the best judge of screenplay but from what I understand about it, I base my decision)

Kahaani - For constantly keeping the audience engaged and brilliantly enabling the execution of a simple story into an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

Best Actor in Supporting Role - Female....and the nominations are:

2. Richa Chadda (GoW)
3. Illeana (Barfi)

Illeana - For being the one of the few non-mute characters in Barfi, yet expressing everything through her eyes and facial expressions.

Best Actor in Supporting Role - Male....and the nominations are:

2. Zeishan Quadri (Definite, GoW)
3. Emraan Hasmi
4. Rishi Kapoor
5. Navazuddin (Talaash, Kahaani)

And the award goes to........... 

Navazuddin - For being a true revelation throughout 2012  only outdoing himself from Kahaani to GoW to Talaash!

Best Masala movie from 100 Crore Club....and the nominations are:

Ek Tha Tiger - For being able to strike the right balance between thrills, entertainment and mindlessness! This tiger roared loud and clear at the B.O.!

Vidya Balan & Priyanka Chopra - For rising and shinning beyond the stereotypes of the "bollywood heroines" and giving a fierce competition to other amazing performances nominated in this category!

Ranbir Kapoor - And there could be no doubt in it...while Rockstar might have taught him how to perform....Barfi comes along and shows him what the importance of a performance is! Hats off!


 Second Last award....

Anurag Kashyap - A story as simple, a screenplay as complex, a list of characters as exhaustive, an execution as brilliant....! While this might be the toughest award to decide upon this year....yet...I think the captain who could steer this boat for 5 hours without ever letting it sink....takes the cake! 

And Finally... The Last award....

Best Movie....and the nominations are:

Talaash - A movie that delivers everything in the right proportions satisfying all your expectations while not meeting them ever and yet delivering the best performances of the year through super tight execution and engrossing yet not too indulgent thrills!
